Equipment/Materials Required:
Phase One: Handout: Individual Tracking Sheet -- Students will require internet access to track news stories from their region.
. The purpose of this project is to familiarize students with current events happening in various regions of the world. It is also the goal of this project to make connections between events that are happening around the world and their own lives as global citizens. Students will then discuss their findings (as were recorded on their Individual Tracking Sheets) in their small group of Global Correspondents using Anchor Sheets. The final phase of this project requires students to synthesize what they have learned, to evaluate which stories had the most global significance and to create a podcast to share their findings.
The objectives of this on-going project were: - to create a greater awareness among students about World Issues and global current events - to allow students with a range of talents to contribute to their group's final project - to create an environment for students to collaborate and discuss global current events - to use technology to communicate a message with their peers and a wider audience - to have students do meaningful work in a small group setting
Suggested Assessment Strategies:
It would be recommended that you discuss each step of this process with your students and that you communicate with them about what the expectation is for each section of this project. At the end of the project students completed a peer evaluation form that was considered as part of the final mark.
